We at Wheat Penny Press know that every big change starts with something small—a spark of inspiration, a bit of insight gleaned from a tiny setback, a bump in the road that jostles you just enough to shake out a new idea.

And that's why we create books for children. Creating a spark of inspiration in a young mind is the surest way to guarantee a better future for us all. The lessons learned in youth shape not only who we grow up to become but also the communities in which we choose to live.

Serving children is a practice of joy, for sure, but it's also a responsibility that deserves the highest level of respect.

Because we take our role in children's lives seriously, we created our Five Core Commitments:

  • Publish books featuring diverse characters, written by authors with diverse identities.

  • Produce content that always uplifts, inspires, empowers, and enlightens.

  • Make our catalog of titles more accessible through our 501 (c)(3) nonprofit public charity, the WPP Little Readers Big Change Initiative, Inc., which provides free books, mental wellness tools, and writing workshops for students in grades PreK-8, public libraries, and community organizations.

  • Support and nurture emerging authors, artists, and other creative voices based on their talent, not the size of their platform.

  • Leave whatever space we enter better than we found it, whether it be a bookshelf, a classroom, or the hearts and imaginations of little readers.

We’re honored that you’ve taken time to visit us here. Take a look around, and don’t forget to say hello!
